Telugu romantic drama ‘Couple Friendly’ directed by debutant Ashwin Chandrasekhar has officially made its way to OTT platforms after its theatrical release. Primarily based in Chennai, the film depicts a young working couple’s life journey together.Santosh Sobhan plays the role of Shiva, a young man from Nellore who moves to Chennai to pursue a career in interior design. He meets Mithra, played by Manasa Varanasi, who is an independent and ambitious professional woman.As their relationship grows stronger, both decide to live together while pursuing their careers. Emotional twist changes the course of the film
According to our exclusive ETimes review, a major change comes in the second half of the film’s story. The review said, “The story takes a sharp turn in the second half when Mithra is diagnosed with a terminal illness. While this turn is intended to increase emotional depth, the treatment devolves into melodrama, at times resembling an overly sentimental tone. The pace noticeably slows down, and the family drama surrounding her condition plays out in a predictable, formulaic manner.” Romance, which had begun as a fresh part of life, gradually moved into familiar and traditional territory and lost its earlier charm.”
Director’s debut shows promise
For Ashwin Chandrasekhar, ‘Couple Friendly’ represents his first feature as a director and ETimes also commented on the director’s effort, saying, “Debutant director Ashwin Chandrasekhar shows clear promise with a refreshing and engaging first half, but the film struggles to maintain that momentum, which suffers due to excessive drama in the latter parts. Still, overall it is an honest and commendable effort.“
box office performance
During its theatrical run, ‘Couple Friendly’ recorded modest but notable numbers at the box office. As reported by Sacknilk, the film performed consistently well in several markets.The film grossed Rs 13.57 crore worldwide within 13 days of its release. This includes Rs 11.97 crore from India and Rs 1.60 crore from overseas markets.Its net collection was Rs 10.57 crore from 7,235 shows during that period.
