Triumph Motorcycles has expanded its Indian portfolio with the launch of the new Triumph Tracker 400, which is priced at Rs 2.46 lakh, ex-showroom. While the name suggests a 400cc motorcycle, the new model is actually the brand’s first model to use a smaller-sized 350cc engine for the Indian market. The Tracker 400 takes clear inspiration from flat track racing, combining retro styling with a sporty stance. It has a round LED headlamp with a small front screen, a flat handlebar and a flat seat. Additionally, it gets a straight fuel tank, racing-style graphics, a side number board with ‘400’ branding and a twin-can upswept exhaust.
Triumph Tracker 400: Engine Specifications and Hardware
Powering the motorcycle is the new TR-series 350 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 40 PS at 8,750 rpm and 32 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. The motor is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. This smaller engine size is aimed at offering better pricing under India’s tax structure for sub-350 cc motorcycles.Last year, India revised the GST structure for two-wheelers. Motorcycles with engines above 350cc now attract 40% tax, while motorcycles up to 350cc fall in the lower bracket of 18%. This change makes smaller engines more viable, allowing Triumph to price its bikes more competitively in this segment.
On the hardware front, the bike is equipped with USD front forks and a monoshock at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 300 mm front disc and a 230 mm rear disc. It also has features like switchable traction control, dual-channel ABS and torque-assist clutch.Stay connected to TOI Auto for latest updates on the automotive sector and follow us on our social media handles on Facebook, Instagram and Xpress.
