Car sales March ’26: Renault sees fastest growth, see how others fared – The Times of India


India’s passenger vehicle market closed the fiscal year on a strong note, with most carmakers reporting good year-on-year growth in March 2026. Better demand, strong SUV portfolio and growing interest in electric vehicles helped drive volumes across all brands. A quick look at how carmakers fared.At the top of the chart, Maruti Suzuki India continued to lead the market with total sales of 2,25,251 units in March 2026, up 16.72 percent compared to 1,92,984 units sold in March 2025. Domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 1,66,219 units, which is 10.27 percent higher than 1,50,743 units in the same month last year.Tata Motors reported strong growth in domestic passenger vehicle sales to 66,192 units in March 2026 from 51,616 units a year ago, a growth of 28 per cent. International PV sales increased to 779 units from 256 units last year. The company’s EV segment also saw significant growth, with sales rising 77 percent to 9,494 units in March 2025 compared to 5,353 units. The brand also highlighted a record-breaking fourth quarter, crossing 2,00,000 units in quarterly sales with a growth of nearly 37 per cent, led by strong demand for models like Nexon and Punch.Hyundai Motor India reported total sales of 69,004 units, registering a growth of 2.5 percent year-on-year. Domestic sales reached 55,064 units, the company’s highest ever domestic performance, registering a growth of 6.3 per cent, while exports stood at 13,940 units.Mahindra & Mahindra reported strong figures in the SUV segment, with domestic sales reaching 60,272 units in March, up 25 percent year-on-year. Total UV sales including exports stood at 62,109 units.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor also recorded steady growth, registering total sales of 37,194 units in March 2026 as compared to 30,043 units in March 2025, a growth of 24 per cent. Domestic sales increased from 28,373 units to 35,125 units, while exports increased from 1,670 units to 2,069 units, both witnessing a growth of 24 per cent.Kia India achieved its highest ever monthly sales by shipping 29,112 units in March 2026, up 14.5 per cent from 25,525 units a year ago. The company also recorded its best-ever quarterly performance, with sales rising 11.6 per cent to 84,316 units in the January-March period. This growth was largely driven by consistent demand for the Seltos, which has exceeded 10,000 units monthly.JSW MG Motor India reported 19 per cent year-on-year growth, with sales reaching 6,528 units in March 2026, indicating stable demand across both its ICE and new energy vehicle portfolios.Skoda Auto India reported sales of 7,928 units in March 2026, compared to 7,422 units in March 2025, showing marginal growth.Among the fastest growing brands, Renault India recorded a sharp 77 per cent growth in domestic wholesales, with volumes rising to 5,046 units in March 2026 from 2,846 units a year ago. For the full fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, the company reported total sales of 42,018 units, up 11 percent compared to 37,900 units in FY2025.
