Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has wiped out the left parties in Nepal. Under the leadership of Rabi Lamichhane and Balen Shah, RSP badly defeated former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Pushp Kamal Dahal Prachanda. Even Balen Shah defeated Oli in the election on the seat itself. After the announcement of election results in Nepal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Rabi Lamichhane and Balen Shah on phone and congratulated them on their victory.

Earlier on Saturday (March 7, 2026), in another post on social media platform X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had congratulated for the successful conduct of parliamentary elections in Nepal. He had said in the post that as a close friend and neighbour, India is fully determined to touch new heights of peace, progress and prosperity with the people of Nepal and the new government there.
