Triumph Motorcycles has finally launched the new 350cc versions of its popular 400 motorcycles in India. This update is closely linked to the revised GST structure that favors sub-350 cc bikes with a lower 18 percent tax rate. The company has downsized its entire entry-level portfolio including the Speed 400, Speed T4, Thruxton 400, Scrambler 400 and Scrambler 400 XC. Interestingly, despite the reduction in engine displacement, Triumph has retained the ‘400’ badge in the lineup rather than renaming the motorcycles. The revised models are now powered by a 349cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. This has been achieved by reducing the stroke from 64 mm to 56.1 mm, while the bore remains unchanged at 89 mm.
Triumph 400cc Motorcycles: New Price
With the updated engine, the motorcycles are now available with savings of up to Rs 21,500 on-road, depending on the model. The updated ex-showroom prices are Rs 1,95,000 for the Speed T4, Rs 2,31,890 for the Speed 400, Rs 2,59,241 for the Scrambler 400, Rs 2,65,538 for the Thruxton 400 and Rs 2,89,534 for the Scrambler 400 XC.
While the motorcycles continue to have similar design, hardware and overall riding character, there are noticeable changes in performance figures due to the smaller engine. The Speed T4 now produces 29.0 PS at 7,500 rpm and 31.0 Nm at 5,500 rpm, compared to 31.0 PS and 36.0 Nm earlier. The Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 now offer 37.0 PS at 8,500 rpm and 32.0 Nm at 7,000 rpm, down from 40.0 PS and 37.5 Nm. Meanwhile, the Thruxton 400 and Scrambler 400Little change has also been seen in the performance figures. For example, the Speed 400 now accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 8.1 seconds, compared to 7.4 seconds earlier, while its top speed has dropped slightly to 147 kmph from 148.7 kmph. Similar trends can be seen across the range, with a slight increase in acceleration time and a slight decrease in top speed.
